Elephantasyn pääesiintyjänä nähdään tänä vuonna jamaikalainen dance hall reggaeta, urbaania soulia ja elektronista musiikkia yhdistelevä Terry Lynn. Kingstonin köyhistä ghetoista maailmanmaineeseen ponnistaneen nuoren neidon ankara yhteiskuntakritiikki, sielukas ääni ja omaperäinen lähestymistapa ovat valloittaneet ihmiset laajasti myös perinteisen reggae-yleisön ulkopuolella. Suomessa Terry Lynn nähdään nyt ensimmäistä kertaa – intiimissä ja tunnelmallisessa Alppipuiston illassa.
Terry Lynnin pari vuotta sitten ilmestynyt Kingstonlogic 2.0 -levy on tunteikas ja aika ajoin suorastaan raivoisa katsaus elämään väkivallan ja köyhyyden runtelemassa suurkaupungissa, joka tunnetaan reggaen ohella hurjista murhatilastoistaan ja rikollisuudestaan. Musiikillisesti kappaleissa matkataan aina Daft Punkin kaltaisista elektronisen musiikin tarttuvista äänimaailmoista moderneihin ja raskaisiin dance hall -rytmeihin sekä jopa runollisen herkkiin soul-tulkintoihin.
Terry Lynniä on mahdoton verrata muihin artisteihin, sen verran ainutlaatuisen keitoksen neito on musiikissaan saanut aikaan. Olennaista osaa keikalla näyttelevät The Afflicted Yardin / The Rickards Brothersin vaikuttavat visuaalit, joten eturivipaikat Alppipuiston kesäillassa tulevat varmasti olemaan kysyttyjä. Sound systemin mukana nähdään DJ Wildlife, joka tuotti useita kappaleita Kingstonlogic 2.0 -levylle ja on urallaan ehtinyt tehdä yhteistyötä monien jamaikalaistähtien kanssa Buju Bantonista aina Vybz Karteliin.

This year’s headliner at Elephantasy will be nobody else than Terry Lynn, hailing from Jamaica and blending together streetwise dance hall reggae, urban soul and electronic music. The young female vocalist from the impoverished area of Kingston has gained worldwide fame with her sharp social commentary, soulful voice and original approach not only in the reggae scene but as well in other audiences. In Finland, Terry Lynn will now be performing for the first time – in the intimate atmosphere of Alppipuisto’s summer night.
Terry Lynn’s debut album Kingstonlogic 2.0, released in 2008, is an emotional and furious look into urban life: Kingston is a city suffering from violence and poverty and best known for its devastating murder statistics and crime rate besides reggae music. Musically speaking, the songs have strong influences from many different genres including powerful, Daft Punk-like electronic thumps and wallops, heavy modern dance hall beats and even poetically sensitive soul interpretations.
It’s not possible to compare Terry Lynn with any other artist in the scene because of the unique blend in her music. Impressing visuals by The Afflicted Yard / The Rickards Brothers will also be an essential part of the show, so you can be certain that the front row will be packed with people in the unforgettable night of Elephantasy at Alppipuisto. Along with the sound system comes DJ Wildlife, who produced many songs to the Kingstonlogic 2.0 album and who has earlier worked together with Jamaican superstars such as Buju Banton and Vybz Kartel to name a few.
